Fast One-Skein Hat Knitting Patterns

Winter demands cozy hats, fireplaces, hot chocolate, and lots of books. Today, I offer you help on the cozy hat front, sharing some easy knitting patterns to keep your heads warm and stylish.

Find time to make one this season! Ideally you will be sipping cocoa in front of a blazing fire, and listening to an audiobook while you do.

Chunky Chelsea Hat, by Christina Lundborg

I love how this simple hat highlights the beautiful randomness of hand-dyed yarn. The pattern calls for 100% merino chunky wool, and we have three colorways that we think look especially dynamite. Check out our chunky yarn hat kits (complete with coordinating poms (faux fur pom poms also sold separately!), and note that the sample photos are all made from this free Chelsea pattern.

Chunky Monkey Beanie, by Suzee Knits

This project is an easy one with some good textural interest. A unisex beanie that will look sophisticated in any of our chunky merino options, but we'd probably start with our Butterscotch, a more tonal mustard color than what Suzee uses in her photo, but still quite similar.

Easy Ribbed Knit Hat for Beginners, by BHooked

Easy rib knit hat tutorial that's easy enough for new knitters to follow along with.

This easy hat uses worsted weight yarn (our DK weight works nicely), is perfect for beginners, and includes a video tutorial (shown below). While all yarns are a good choice, our Confetti Cake would be an especially fun one. Need some knitting needles? We have those, too.

The Musselburgh double-layered reversible beanie, by Ysolda Teague

This unique pattern creates a double layered closed tube that folds into itself. Other than the tricky pin-hole start (here is our favorite video tutorial for the cast on), it is just a big stockinette project, ideal for some Netflix-and-knitting. We think buying this pattern is totally worth it, because not only is this hat just cool, the PDF gives you instructions for multiple sizes and yarn weights, too. We love using our fingering weight yarn as with the knitted fabric doubled, it's plenty warm for our Pacific Northwest moderate winter temperatures. We recently made one using just one skein of our Autumn Days colorway and it turned out great. Bonus: It was a perfectly relaxing project, too.

Captain Tracy's Watch Hat, by Em Rhodes

This quick bulky hat pattern uses yarn that looks so much like our Indigo Shibori, well, obviously we needed to share it. The pattern is free, too.

Do you have any favorite hat knitting patterns? We'd love to hear about them -- please share in the comments. And if you make one of these, seeing a photo would be fun.

Please send me the pattern for the knitting baby blanket, with ruffles.
Can I use circular knitting needles?
